    A Brazilian in Bettendorf

    Hi — I'm Lucas Dantas.

I came to the United States from Minas Gerais, Brazil, on a soccer scholarship. I didn't expect to stay. I definitely didn't expect to end up running software companies from a desk in Bettendorf, Iowa. But that's the thing about building things online — once you start, geography stops mattering, and the Quad Cities turn out to be a pretty good place to do it.

I built Quad Cities Digital because I kept meeting people at coffee shops in Davenport, at events in Moline, at the chamber in Rock Island, all asking me the same questions:

    • "How do I sell what I make online without losing money on shipping and sales tax?"
    • "I have 8,000 followers. How do I actually turn that into income?"
    • "I know my industry inside and out. Can I really sell a course about it?"
    • "How do I find clients in a market this small?"
    • "Everyone says 'build a community.' On what? Discord? Skool? Something else?"

This site is the answer to those questions, written for the way people in the Quad Cities actually live and work — between two states, two tax systems, and one river.

What I've built (so people know who's writing this)

I'm the founder and CEO of Magnetic Funnels, an AI automation agency headquartered here in the Quad Cities. We help local service businesses — barbershops, contractors, med-spas, home-renovation crews — turn missed calls into booked appointments using AI voice agents and CRM automation.

I also run Magnetic Flows, the largest Portuguese-language community for CRM users, with members across Brazil and the Brazilian diaspora. In 2025 I was awarded the SaaSpreneur Gold recognition for operating over 100 active SaaS sub-accounts — the first Brazilian to be certified on the platform and one of a handful of operators worldwide at that volume.

On the side, I co-founded Wrexham Brasil, the largest Portuguese-language Wrexham AFC fan community. Yes — the Welsh soccer club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. He's interacted with us on social. It's still surreal.

I'm a 2023 graduate of Western Illinois University with a degree in Communication and Media Studies. Before Magnetic Funnels, I worked across CRM, marketing automation, and digital sales — Microsoft Dynamics, Zoho, Salesforce, and eventually deep into automation platforms.

    Why the Quad Cities

People ask me all the time why I didn't move to Miami or Austin or Orlando. The honest answer is that the Quad Cities are quietly one of the best places in America to start something. Cost of living is roughly 16% below the national average. Industrial muscle from John Deere, Arconic, and the Rock Island Arsenal supports an ecosystem of more than 7,200 small businesses that account for 87% of all businesses in the region and generate over $19 billion in annual revenue. The Technology Association of Iowa named the region Technology Community of the Year in 2025. There's a tight startup community at NewBoCo's accelerator, mentorship from SCORE Quad Cities (named National SCORE Chapter of the Year), and bilingual support through the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

And the Mississippi runs east to west here. That's the only place in America where it does. Once you notice that, you start to notice a lot of other things this metro does differently.

    What you'll find here

Quad Cities Digital publishes practical, locally-grounded guides across five pillars:

    1. E-commerce — Shopify, Etsy, print-on-demand, and the very specific Iowa-vs-Illinois sales-tax math that catches new sellers off guard.
    2. Creator & Influencer Economy — growing an audience around QC culture, monetizing it, and dealing with brand deals as a 1099 contractor in Iowa or Illinois.
    3. Info-Products — courses, ebooks, paid newsletters, and templates, written by someone who actually sells them.
    4. Consulting & Freelancing — pricing, packaging, and finding your first clients in a 470,000-person metro.
    5. Community Building — Discord, Skool, paid memberships, and live meetups at places like The Bend, Rust Belt, and Bass Street Landing.

Every guide is written for someone who lives here, pays taxes in one of these two states, and wants real numbers and real steps — not generic "start a side hustle" filler.

How I make money (so you know)

This site is free and ad-free. I keep it that way intentionally. When I recommend a tool — Shopify, ConvertKit, HighLevel, Beehiiv, Skool — some of those links may be affiliate links that pay me a commission at no cost to you. I disclose every one. I only recommend tools I actively use or have used in production at Magnetic Funnels or Magnetic Flows.

If you're a local Quad Cities business and you want help with the kind of automation I write about, you can hire my team at Magnetic Funnels. That's a separate transaction, on a separate site, and nothing on this site is gated behind that pitch.
